2020 Virtual National Capital Pride Run/Walk
With the COVID-19 pandemic, Pride Runs are looking very different this year across Canada. In honour of its 5th anniversary, the 2020 National Capital Pride Run/Walk (NCPR) is happy to announce that we are going virtual, and we are inviting you to take part! Most importantly, the 2020 NCPR will continue to raise funds for our very deserving charity partner Bruce House.
So what does a Virtual NCPR look like?
Registration: Participants will still be required to register online here. We've set a flat $25 fee for all adult participants, and $15 for youth (age 16 or less).
Fundraising to support our community: When you register, you will be provided with the opportunity to raise monies online for Bruce House. We would encourage you to do this! We know this has been a difficult time for everyone, and Bruce House is no exception. By pursuing additional fundraising efforts, you are helping out one of the most beloved organizations in the National Capital LGBTQ2S community at a time when it needs your help. And, if you raise $200 or more, you will get a free registration to the 2021 NCPR!
Run/Walk and Post Your time: During the week of August 21-30, you will need to run a 5km route, or walk a 2.5km route. When you do, record your time on your smartphone or watch. You’ll be asked to post your time online, through the 'It's Your Race' platform, so that you can share it with everyone! (Information on how to post will be sent separately). If you are running a 5km, you have another option. In honour of our 5th anniversary, during the month of August, you can run 5, 5km runs. Record the time for each of the 5 runs,and post your best time!
Dress the Part: The NCPR is a great opportunity to show us how fabulous you can be. As in previous years, we'd encourage you to dress in your most colourful, Pride-tastic outfits when you go for your Run/Walk. When you do, take a photo, and we’ll ask you to share it online (details to follow). Our judges will choose the best costume, and the top 3 winners will receive a prize!
"Out to Run" Program: We're pleased to announce that the "Out to Run" program will once again be offered by the Ottawa Frontrunners. The program will start July 7, and will provide training to participants with the ultimate goal that they complete a 5km Pride Run in August. There’s no additional cost to participate. If you or anyone you know is interested, please contact Marcel Forget at marcel.ofr@rogers.com, and he will send you details.
Warm up Video and Music: Before any exercise, it's important to warm up. Registered participants will be sent a dedicated warm-up video produced by NCPR Organizing Committee member Matthew Morris, as well as some fantastic music tracks to help you. If you have suggestions for music tracks, you can send those to Matthew at coachmattmorris@gmail.com.
Virtual Delegate Bag: All registered participants will receive a virtual delegate bag which will include offers from local supporters and organizations.
Invitation to an in-person get together: Virtual is fun, but in person is better! Once we are at a point where larger gatherings are once again allowed, we will arrange an in person get together to thank and acknowledge all the participants of the 2020 NCPR. We don't know when this will be, but if you register, you'll get an invitation!
Online silent auction: We will shortly share information about an online silent auction, containing a number of great items that you can bid upon. All funds raised through the online silent auction go directly to Bruce House. Watch for more information!

This pandemic may prevent us from getting together, but it won't prevent us from having fun and supporting a great cause in our community.
